The DASS-42 scale was used to measure students' mental health condition and student's parental expectations were measured using the High Parental Expectations (HPE) scale. University of Nagaland first-year students reported a strong link between family expectations and academic stress. Academic stress and its subscales (anxiety, depression, and stress) were also shown to be significantly different across the sexes, according to an independent sample t-test.
